transmission

On Sunday night I flew solo over to Cinematheque to see the film Control about the band Joy Division (whom I love). I realized 2 things:

1. That I was not, in fact, flying genuinely solo because I knew more than 10 people there. I'm not kidding, the small theater was completely filled and they had to turn people away (it was the last night of three nights of showings of the movie).

2. That I should have expected it to be as depressing as it ended up being. I knew that Ian Curtis committed suicide but actually seeing a movie about the rise of Joy Division and Curtis's life made it all the more captivating and just dismal. Please please please don't let that discourage you from seeing it or wanting to see it because it was incredibly beautiful. The acting by Sam Riley as Ian Curtis and Samantha Morton as his young wife was phenomenal and refreshingly funny at times. Even if I wasn't a Joy Division fan I would see it. It's shot in black and white and the general look of it is so appropriate. It's not showing anymore in Winnipeg at the moment but seriously, keep your eye out for it.

To get you in the mood, here's one of my favourite Joy Division songs:

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrap

I'm actually very sad about Heath Ledger's death! How unbelievable!

IN OTHER NEWS:
I don't know I feel like my life plans are getting pulled apart and remodeled and it's all very complicated and confusing. Due to my family (and I) not wanting to make things 1938202 x more complicated and costly than they already are, I will be moving to Vancouver with them and attending either UBC or SFU. I don't know, obviously I'm crushed that Toronto won't be happening anytime soon but if I move, they will pay my tuition and books and I won't have to pay for rent and food which I can't afford at ALL. I'll be able to save up some money so I can visit Winnipeg and Toronto and maybe take some exciting trips and who knows...
I'm just happy to be leaving Winnipeg for now. Even though I love many things about this city it's just TIME to leave, you know?

IN OTHER OTHER NEWS:
my head hurts so so so so much and my nose is so so stuffy and I just generally feel like a terrible underwater sea creature. Haaaallllp

palatable

holy calamity scream insanity all you ever gonna be's another great fan of me BREAK

Right now I REALLY REALLY want "orange drink", like, I'm CRAVING it. You know, orange drink? That stuff they used to put in the huge coolers at track and field days in school and it was served in those waxy McDonalds cups? No nutritional value whatsoever? MMMMM BABY
But lets talk about the Golden Globes. A few things:

  • how WEIRD is it that there wasn't a show this year?! I hate to be a typical girl (and I didn't miss it until it wasn't there anymore) but I wish I could have seen all the beautiful dresses and diamonds and hair styles and WORST DRESSED and BEST DRESSED and MOST AWKWARD RED CARPET INTERVIEW and all of that. Access Hollywood hosts did NOT a good show make. Could I possibly be MORE irritated by Billy Bush (that is SO not your real name) and Nancy O'dell?

  • ROCK ON TO THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE AND MOVIES:
– Best Actress, Comedy or Musical Series:
Tina Fey, 30 Rock

FUCK yes Tina Fey. What an awesome actress/writer/producer/whatever else she does that probably makes her job=her whole life but in turn makes my life=awesome.

– Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture:
Javier Bardem, No Country for Old Men

Having literally SHIELDED MY EYES from the screen every time he appeared in this movie, I'd say he deserves this. He (no joke) had me shaking with fear as the villain in this movie. Kudos to the Coen Brothers as well.

– Best Supporting Actor, Series, Miniseries or TV Movie
Jeremy Piven, Entourage

The Pivs blowin' up like I thought he would. I cannot express my love for the genius that is Ari Gold. Lets hug it out you little bitch.

  • I wanted to see these pretty badly before but now I want to see There Will Be Blood and La Vie en Rose more than ever ever ever.
  • The Golden Globes are never complete without a little Beyonce bad posing action (from last year's red carpet) (side note: what was Beyonce actually doing at the Golden Globes?)

just a few items of interest (to only me, really)edit: the general interest bullet points are in purple for efficiency

-I cut my bangs and they're pretty nifty, I look really different

-I forgot how much I used to like Belle and Sebastian in, like, grade 10. I think I'll start listening to them again.

-I have tomorrow completely off from both of my jobs and that is AWESOME.

-Jeanine chose sushi for her birthday dinner which obviously makes me happy

-Tonight I bet anyone $5 that I'll dream about different types of lenses and astigmatism and far-sightedness and near-sightedness and holy shit

-I posted the photos from my disposable cameras from the Ugly Sweater Jogging Club, please go love them as much as I do http://www.thejoggingclub.com/stef

-

-I'm trying not to be cryptic in this blog but that's so hard to do when you don't want to be directly mean so, to "Clifford": stop trying so hard, trust

-
I hope you enjoyed the purple parts of this blog thank you for your time

-One more thing: say you were in the car with somebody you liked but it wasn't a "thing" yet or anything and you were in control of the music to play and you weren't going to play any cheesy shit but just something you'd want them to hear that would accurately represent your taste and also make them think "okay this person is pretty groovy," WHAT WOULD YOU PLAY?
I'm not in this situation at all but I'm curious! I would probably play...
this is so hard and it would completely change with the person I'm sure
King Of Carrot Flowers Part 1 andKing Of Carrot Flowers Part 2 & 3 by Neutral Milk Hotel (they kind of blend together and make one song that's like 5.5 minutes) because it's fucking cool. It would be kind of awkward because one of the lyrics in part 2 & 3 is like "IIIIIIII LOVE YOU JESUS CHRIST" and I don't know but it could be weird for the other person, even though it's not christian at all and it's just fucking cool.

I DON'T KNOW, THAT IS ALL I GUESS

It's really nice to work at a job where you don't have to put your hair back or wear a uniform or a hat or ugly shoes.

My father phoned me after his Vancouver interview today but I was at work. He left a message that said "I think I nailed it" and I guess they're going to make him an offer sometime next week.
Last night I had a good chunk of time to rack my brains and shed some tears and I think I've got it. I'm going to move to Toronto and go to school there. I'm not going to try to get into fashion because although that is one of my few passions, I crave knowledge beyond what the fashion program can offer me. I want to learn about philosophy and culture and languages and people.

I'm still very very scared and although they're shaky, I am slowly taking my first steps.

ambidextrous

2. "That's ridiculous"
3. "omg I know"
4. "FIERCE."
5. "um"

So, what 3 things do you find yourself doing every single day, and if you didn't get to do, you probably wouldn't be in the best mood?

3. be alone

We're going to the zoo. But, it looks like it could start storming, so it'll have to be a quick visit. What 3 exhibits do we have to get to?
1. Monkeys
2. Polar Bears
3. Dinosaurs (at our zoo we have this indoor dino egg that you can climb into, I don't know)

You just scored tickets to the taping of any show that comes on t.v. of your choice. You can pick between 4, so what are you deciding between?
1. The Office
2. 30 Rock
3. Arrested Development (too late I guess)
4. I don't know...Oprah would be cool if she gave me free stuff?

You're hungry for ice cream. I'll give you a triple dipper ice cream cone. What 3 flavors can I pile on for ya?
1. FIRST AND FOREMOST: Mint Chocolate Chip
2. Rocky Road

friable

Tomorrow morning at 5:30am my father is getting on a plane to Vancouver for a second job interview. This means one of two things: he gets the job and he and my mother move to Vancouver, or, he doesn't get the job and he and my mother stay here in Winnipeg.
I would not move to Vancouver with them. I would either stay here or move to Toronto. If they stay in Winnipeg, I would most definitely move to Toronto. I think it's time for me to live on my own anyway. I guess this is the definition of "growing up" and I guess I've been waiting for this type of decision to present itself to me ever since I can remember.
I never thought I'd have this sort of "coming of age" defining moment that is so common in the books they make you read in high school. I always thought it would be an easy transition between childhood and adulthood, you know, smooth, barely noticeable. I didn't anticipate this at all.
There are a million and one metaphors and cliches for this circumstance, like when you're at the edge of a really cold pool and you know you just have to jump and hope to swim and hope it's not as cold as it looks.

This is sloppy but fuck it, I have no idea what I'm going to do and I am very very scared about a lot of things.
