Now Playing

Currently obsessed with White Lightning's playlist for Rookie. It's wonderfully fall-feeling and dreamy. Was that Flys song on any movie soundtracks? It sounds so familiar and not just in the used-to-hear-it-on-the-radio way. Jawbreaker? No?

lana del rey - blue jeans

I'm so into her! We did a write up on her for our work blog and ever since then I can't get enough.

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

I was extracted, spanked, and hosed off, in that order. They wrapped me in a blanket and put me on display among six other infants, four boys, two girls, all of them, unlike me, correctly tagged. This can't be true but I remember it: sparks slowly filling a dark screen.
Someone had switched on my eyes.

just a taste

Here's a little moment of zen as I regroup my thoughts post-Portland-visit. Trying to fix a broken iPhone and getting ever more consumed by Middlesex is taking up a bit of time. There is much more where this came from...

I don't know much about 1+1

I never realized how beautiful this song was before because I couldn't get past how it sounds like she says "algebuh" instead of "algebra" but this video was insane. It's from fellow blogger (HAH) Jay-Z's website and he took it backstage at American Idol. He captioned it thusly:

Sometimes you need perspective. You’ve been right in front of greatness so often that you need to step back and see it again for the first time.

BRB, crying :')

melancholy ah

As a giant Sofia Coppola fan, I've proven that I'll sit through any movie (any) that has stunning visuals. That's why I'm so excited to see Lars Von Trier's Melancholia.

maybe i'm just crazy

Well, I think it's about that time again folks. The once-every-1/4-year post from yours truly. I've had some ideas bouncing around in my head about my blog lately so there will certainly be changes (not to mention more posts) coming.

For now, I wanted to share my summer through photos. I've recently become engrossed in Instagram, the iPhone app with the fun effects that acts like a second Twitter for photos. Twitter is like the know-it-all big sister to Instagram's dumb-but-pretty younger sis. That is to say it's fun, effortless and requires little thought. Here are some of my Instagram captures to date...

Summer reading, Mexican brunch, party on my family's sailboat what whattttt.

On the plane to beautiful sunny Winnipeg, 2 of the best (one you may know as Pullteeth in Winnipeg, the beach (it was +30 degrees!), the most amazing drink invention ever; the Bulldog Beergarita.

My janky sparkle nails, Stu with the best tag I've ever seen, a faraway beach in Whistler, my new varsity jacket.

self-explanatory, Stu's tattoo - not new (I think it' unreal), waiting for the Greyhound to Penticton with my crochet TOMS, Plinko gumballs at the bus station.

Penticton private beach paradise, Rickards White forever.

There's a little taste of Instagram. If you don't have an iPhone, you can check it out at this awesome third-party site called Gramfeed. If you DO have Instagram, follow me! My user name is stefinmotion.

Things I would rather do...

...than write this article

1. Try to think of tattoo ideas. Look at models' tattoos and realize I either a) hate them or b) find them funny

2. Think about my tummy ache.

3. Read Thought Catalog

4. Get to page 44 in the archives of a tumblr about people with purple hair.

6 Best Moments On Guns At Home (formerly Keep Your Guns At Home for your record-keeping purposes) 2007 to Present

I've had this blog for kind of a long time now, and I have probably lost a lot of readers by never updating, or updating sporadically, or maybe by swearing, or not swearing, or not posting outfit photos or whatever. But in the process of losing blog-friends I think I've probably gained one or two so that's why I wanted to take a look back at my favourite posts of all time. Also because I'm feeling uninspired lately and I really like how my blog used to be; fun, dumb, and personal. Strap in guys...

6. Seth Rogen rocking out on a bicycle:

This was when Seth Rogen was kind of over saturated and people were either in the love-him or hate-him camp. It was also after he lost a bunch of weight and cut off his fro so I was naturally in the love-him camp because I love a good makeover story.

5. The time I ate an apple on webcam and took screenshots, aka, See-Food:

I don't know why I like this. It just always makes me laugh and want an apple. I promise it's not for vain reasons...I think.

4. Crabby Hat:

This is one of my favourite pictures ever found on the internet because it's absolutely wacky and so old. How did this lady get away with wearing this when film was still in black and white? My best guess is that she was an ambassador on the east coast for some sort of shellfish fetival and she was just trying to get into the spirit. Or she's Lady Gaga's grandma.

3. The Time Kelly and Jack Osbourne Bit My Style:

This bro and sis duo totally copied me. I was devastated and had my lawyers send them a cease and desist order. Jk.

2. Nancy Reagan vs. Jackie Kennedy: White House Decor Cagematch:

I'm actually still curious as to what everyone reading thinks about this. It was one of my favourite posts because Nancy's design sense totally spoke to me on a higher level of yellow 80's tacky-but-pretty steez.

1. The One, The Only: Bologna Baby:

I posted this in 2008 and I still think about Bologna Baby on the regz. I don't know who made her or photographed her or what she was intended or if anyone else even found her as fascinating and hilarious as I did. Does anybody like Bologna Baby like I do? Either way, she is probably the mascot of this blog in my mind. There was also a follow-up post where I found a few more processed-food babies in equally inexplicable photos. I don't know.

It's my party and I'll drool if I want to

Today I turn the big 2-2. What a weird age. I feel like there are no more milestones until 30, then 40... OK ENOUGH

To celebrate my birthday, I present you to food that looks delicious. Who doesn't like a little eye-candy sometimes? If I weren't going out for epic Indian buffet with my famjam tonight, this is what I would be dreaming of eating...

Baked Lemon Pasta

Avocado Summer Wrap

Chickpea Salad

Sweet Potato Skins

Sunny side up on aparagus

MAC AND CHEESE GRILLED CHEESE. No link to a recipe but...I think the picture is enough. (EDIT: Found a Link)

Universe hear my prayer

Lately I feel like something is telling me that I need a big black and white turban. SOMETHING being the Universe/G-d/Allah/Zeus or just the mighty Internet. Then I remember I'm a lil girl who could never pull it off like Solange Knowles or this random gal (I don't know who this is sorry). And then I pray for enough money to pay to be transplanted with just a bit of the Knowles family genes. If you're brave enough/cool enough to rock this turban, please go forth. And send pics.

WOAH. Liiiiike, this whole outfit, right? Jesus.

summer mood

Today I've begun to put together the beginnings of my summer playlist. Do you have any suggestions? My favourite jams to put on these types of playlists are songs with tropical beats and beachy vibes -- also, steel drums can't hurt...
Here's the first song I put on the playlist, it sets the tone for the rest of it. LISTEN TO IT. TRUST ME ON THIS.

I'll just leave this here...

Anybody starved for inspiration (hahaha...that sounds a little melodramz, my bad)? It's been kind of gray around here lately but when I saw this spread on Fashion Gone Rogue (thanks to my bf4eva Pull Teeth aka Andrew Chipman for linking me) I was instantly like WOAH. Here's how the conversation went, try to keep up:

Andrew: WOAH

(and he linked me to this picture)

Me: OMG :')
Me: :'D
Me: -___-

Andrew: haahahahaha

Me: dead

Me: so much hideous beauty
Me: all encapsulating
Me: wonderous
Me: dirt

Andrew: exxxactly

So there you have it folks, now you know what to expect...

Such amazing shoes, such a great colour palette, so much...hideous beauty?
If you wanna see the full editorial, check it out on Fashion Gone Rogue.

GREAT blog alert

Do you like lil German girls with short hair and big smiles who dress like this:

Well then I would bet money (10 bux, wanna gamble?) that you'll like Annabu and her blog Bu The Right Thing. Not only does her name make me squeal (how cute, right?) but her style is to die for. Think printed leggings, bright colours, mixed prints and chunky knits - kind of everything I'm into! If you want some style inspiration that isn't just the latest blogger trends (pleated midis anyone? Yeah, I wore one today...) then this blog is really worth checking out.

Sucker Punch You In the Junk

Yes, it's disappointing that the much-anticipated ( me at least?) movie Sucker Punch has been repeatedly reviewed as the worst movie of the year. But can we all agree that it was the best movie PREMIERE of the year? With a cast full of really cool women who are all about taking risks with their fashion choices (see: Jena Malone, Emily Browning) this premiere was bound to be a feast for the eyes:

(Click it to see full size. Thanks to JustJared for the image)

Do you think all the girls coordinated their outfits via text/skype before going? Not that I've ever... done that... but seriously, they had to have talked about it sometime because what we see here is a group of cool girls wearing totally complementary colours and looking amazing in a group photo. Canary yellow, floral, baby blue brocade (!!!) and a really great 90's separates outfit featuring a b-top! Much obliged, ladies.
