friends of friends
Andrew arrived in Vancouver on Sunday morning to stay with me until next Monday! We've done lots of shopping and far too much walking (with no signs of slowing down). Tonight I forced him to watch Zodiac with Jake Gyllenhaal and, my personal favourite, Chloe Sevigny. If you've never seen it you really should if not for the creep-factor of the storyline itself, then for Sev's character's look. She's delightfully bookish, and I envied her multiple pairs of glasses and her long, golden middle-parted hair. Take a look for yourself:
p.s. Afterthought: Chloe Sevs totally reminded me of our friend Lana (on the right, pictured with her blog-partner-in-crime Meghan)
But after further thought, I concluded that they don't in fact look anything alike, they are simply both very pretty middle-parted-blondes with impeccable style. Props!

lurkers unite: the gunsathome edition
Once upon a time, Andrew made a post about blog lurkers, occasional contributors and active commenters. In this post he said that he read somewhere that:
So I've decided to copy him with this post. The idea is simple: lurkers, come out of the shadows and make yourself known by commenting here! Even if it is anonymously, even if it is the only comment you will ever make on my blog/any blog ever. Andrew offered a cookie but here, I offer Martha Stewart's very own ice cream sandwiches. If I wasn't full right now, I would be in a hellish lust over my google image search for 'ice cream'.
"an average of 90% of a blog's readers are lurkers. Then 9% of the remaining contribute little to the blog. That leaves 1% who are active commenters."

ode to the prairies:
a haiku.
new home is alright
the city is hot and big
i don't like the hills
Brittany's photos sure don't make me miss home any less, but I love them. Andrew comes to visit in 6 days!

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL! Alexander Wang, genius designer and entrepreneur, is going to be launching a line of t-shirts! When I first heard I was like "OH GREAT another ~high-end~ t-shirt line like MK+A's The Row that I totally can't afford." BUT ACTUALLY LOOK:
"The line thus far is to consist of 12 different styles, with a price range of $20-50, in a variety of colors and cuts."
$20-$50?! THAT I CAN WORK WITH. The line will be called T by Alexander Wang. And look how beautiful they are:

And, because we're on the Wang tip and his muse happens to be the epic Erin Wasson, here are some great photos of her at home from famed TheSelby

sour times
Just kidding about the subject line. Life is okay. Time for a point-form post! Weeee!
- Today I walked around downtown Vancouver. Was chatted up by black man with a grill. Like, I'm actually serious. He was really nice! He said "have a lovely day".
- At one point today I thought I was walking to Urban Outfitters but I went too far and wound up in the sex shop district. There was a store with stripper/hooker clothes called DARE TO WEAR IT!. I contemplated taking the dare! Just kidding.
- After Urban Outfitters, I was really thirsty. I went to 7-11 (they have URBAN 7-11's here, like in the middle of an office building all classy-like!) to get a Slurpee. I thought it sounded good but it made me cranky. I was walking around and people were getting in my way and some boys said something vulgar to me (I couldn't really hear them because I had my iPod on but STILL I SAW THEIR FACES) and I wanted to dump Slurpees on their heads. Then I saw this gross lady driving a huge pollute-y Escalade and I wanted to dump my Slurpee on it and dirty it up real good. I kept fantasizing about dumping my Slurpee on various things and then I realized I just really didn't want my Slurpee. It was gross. I threw itup out.
- Urban Outfitters was playing the new Beck album.
- My camera is making weird noises and not focusing and then turning off by itself! I was going to take pictures of cute people downtown today and secret pictures of funny people! But no luck. Sorry.
- I bought those pink sheer knee-highs for my last night in Winnipeg and I love them! Thanks white-lightning-Elizabeth!
- I've been listening to old Blink 182 albums. They are REALLY REALLY GOOD. Sample lyrics:
She makes me feel like it's raining outside and when the storm's done I'm all torn up inside
or
Everything has fallen to pieces, earth is dying help me Jesus. We need guidance we've been misled YOUNG AND HOSTILE BUT NOT STUPID!
PREACH!
ok bye

handjobs for the holidays
That's a Broken Social Scene song.
I'm at the end of Day 1 in my new Vancouver home. I'm sitting in my unbelievably comfortable bed listening to BSS and blogging and reading blogs and thinking about blogs. My cat just stumbled in, Cosmo Kramer-style. When I was younger, probably about 7 years old, I did Kramer impressions daily. I was a real card.
I cried all day yesterday, on and off, about leaving Winnipeg and not having any friends here. Everybody keeps assuring me I'll make friends easily. I'm trying my best to believe them but in the mean time I'm eating pickles and reading Anne Frank's diary. I remember in the 3rd grade I started reading it and only got about halfway through before losing interest in it and starting one of my own. I even named it like she did and wrote in the same style.
For tradition's sake I'll include the usual plane-bathroom-photo. I'm thinking of compiling them once I have enough and doing something with them. It's not vain because I don't look pretty in them. I look sad in this one and whereas that is partly true, it's mostly because I had just woken up from the least comfortable airplane nap I have ever experienced (full of violent and sporadic head-nodding and accidental teeth chattering. Ugh).
For now I leave you with my make-upless mile-high mug. Enjoy your night whether you are spending it in Vancouver, Winnipeg, or anywhere else. If you're in Winnipeg I want to pull a Freaky-Friday with you right now. Any takers?

everything is new
The other day my friends Andrew, Brittany and I drove West of Winnipeg to try to find a field with yellow flowers. En route to Brandon we found a lovely one that was just perfect for the photo shoot we were cooking up. Mismatched outfits in tow, Andrew and I treaded into the field in our Doc Martens, flattening some of the yellow flowers in our path. Brittany got out her fancy camera equipment and went to work capturing us being silly, blowing bubbles, pretending to take photographs with old vintage cameras etc. etc. It was hot but the good company and beautiful setting made up for it.
Brittany has had a jam-packed week since then so she hasn't yet edited the photos but in the mean time, here are some polaroids Andrew and I took.
also, take a look at Brittany's Flickr page to get an idea of how great she is.
One time she did a photoshoot with us before Andrew's grad. I never posted about it for some reason! See:
